Get Rid of Freckles in 5 Natural Remedies

Freckles are described as round, flat discolored spots that are often found in the areas most frequently under the sun. The size of freckles ranges from 2mm to 4mm. It often multiplies and spread to other areas but with proper remedies, you can get rid the freckles.


Freckles are usually sensitive to sun exposure that is why it is more visible during the summer. It does not only appear in the face, but it may also appear in the neck and arms. However, it is more visibly seen around the nose and may appear unsightly for those who have fair skin.

There are two types of freckles. The two types of freckles are:

·         Ephelides - this type of freckles may appear as light brown or red spots that are normally seen during hot summer months and may appear lesser during the winter. These are normally caused by hereditary.

·         Lentigines - these are characterized as dark brown or black spot. These freckles usually appear during summer and may stay even in winter.

Causes of Freckles
The presence of freckles is due to various causes. The major cause of freckles is genetics. If one or both parents have freckles, their children will likely to have freckles, too. Another cause is prolonged exposure of sun in particular are those who have fair skin because melanin content is lesser with those who have fair skin. Less melanin content causes the spots to appear more commonly to fair skin than their counterparts do.

Hormonal imbalance can also cause freckles to appear. The estrogen imbalance can trigger over stimulation of pigment producing cells, which may result to discolored spots when exposed to UV rays.

Home Remedies of Freckles
Freckles are unsightly especially to those who want to have flawless skin that is why majority of whom those who have freckles opt to remove them. But removing them may be hard on your pockets.

Here are some home remedies you can try:

  •       Lemon Juice

This is the most common home remedy for freckles. Lemon juice is known for its ability to whiten the skin most especially dark spots like freckles. You may apply lemon juice at morning and at night. If it is too acidic for your skin, you may add some sugar to reduce the harshness of lemon juice. After a few weeks, you may realize that your freckles are less visible. Avoid sun exposure to avoid freckles.

  •       Yogurt

Yogurt is not just a favorite snack, but it can also beautify your skin. You may leave the yogurt at the area where there are many freckles then leave the mixture there for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, rinse the yogurt afterwards. With continued use, you may observe your freckles are less light.

  •       Eat foods rich in Vitamin C

Vitamin C lessens the sensitivity of the skin to sun exposure. This is very important to those who have freckles, they need enough vitamin C to lessen the reaction of their skin to UV rays. Some of food rich in Vitamin C are oranges and grapes.

  •      Honey

Put some honey in the face and leave it there for a couple of minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and then rinse it again with cool water.

  •      Avoid sun exposure

Avoiding sun exposure during 10 am to 4pm will help in reducing the appearance of freckles. If you are going out, you may wear protective sunscreen with at least SPF15.
