Alcohol Causes Skin Aging

Alcohol Causes Skin Aging

Did you had a bad day and your way of relaxing is drinking alcohol? Do you think alcohol can really relax you? Maybe not especially if you will learn that alcohol damages your skin. Moreover, studies show that alcohol can cause premature aging.

We all read that alcohol can damage your liver and can cause serious health conditions but many people do not seem to bother about it. However, recent studies now show that another reason why you should quit drinking is that it causes premature skin aging.

Elastin and collagen production is needed by the body in order to keep the skin vibrant and youthful looking. The presence of Vitamin A is needed to boost the production of collagen in the skin. However, if you are drinking alcohol, this will result to Vitamin A and oxygen deficiency that may result to reduce production of collagen and elastin. Less production of Vitamin A and oxygen may result to skin premature aging. This is the reason why heavy drinkers may appear years older than those non-drinkers.

Aside from the wrinkled lines, those who drink alcohol may start to observe that they are having creases under the eyes than their counterparts who do not drink alcohol.

Aside from premature aging, alcohol can also cause skin discoloration. Heavy drinkers may observe that they have red and blotchy skin that may look like rosacea. This is because alcohol widens the blood vessel in the skin. Long term drinking may even result to permanent blotchy skin and puffiness of the face.

The red blotchy face may also worsen if you still do not quit drinking. It may result to broken capillaries and veins in the face. When the capillaries dilated, they may result to red and purple veins that are very visible and may appear around the nose. This skin condition is known as drinker's nose but this is very unsightly particularly those who have fair skin.

In addition, drinking alcohol is not good for those who have acne because acne may worsen the appearance of acne. This may result to pusheads and severe redness that may stay even after you drink alcohol.

In the end, no amount of anti-aging or skin care products will improve your skin if you continue drinking alcohol.  If you really want your skin to remain looking vibrant and youthful, the first thing you should do is to get rid of alcohol.
