7 Tips to Prevent Dry Skin


 

Dry skin is characterized as red, itchy and scaly. It maybe present all year round but it gets worst during autumn and winter. It may be seen in the face, legs and in the arms.


Causes of Dry Skin
Dry skin is affected by different factors. Some of well known causes of dry skin are:

1. Weather
Weather plays a major role in the skin. Too much cold during winter may irritate and dry the skin.

2. Skin sensitivity
If the skin is too sensitive to harsh soaps and body lotions as they may contain synthetic ingredients that may hurt the skin.

3. Over bathing
Taking a daily bath is required to make sure that our body is clean from harmful bacteria however, bathing 3-4 times a day is considered over bathing and this may erode the normal elasticity of the skin.

4. Certain illness
Certain illness like eczema may also result to dry skin. You may see a doctor if your dry skin is characterized as red and scaly and very itchy.

5. Alcohol
Another reason why you should stop drinking alcohol is that it damages the PH balance of the skin thus resulting to dry skin.

6. Smoking
Smoking is not just bad for the lungs but it is also considered as the enemy of the skin. Smoking causes dry skin, facial lines and hastens the process of skin aging in your body.

Tips to Prevent Dry Skin

Dry Skin Tip # 1:  Take a warm bath instead of hot water
Hot bath especially during winter is really something that is hard to turn down but too much hot water can really dry your skin. To avoid this problem, take a warm bath instead of vey hot water. Try to test the water first. If your skin becomes red, then it means that you are bathing in hot water, replaced it with warm water instead.

Dry Skin Tip # 2: Moisturize your skin daily
Moisturizing your skin daily is very important. Moisturizers act a seal to your skin as it prevents the moisture from escaping in the skin. A good moisturizer for those who have dry skin is oil based moisturizers.

Dry Skin Tip # 3: Use moisturizing cleansers instead of dry soap
Soaps contain ingredients that may dry your skin. To solve this, you may use moisturizing cleansers that may clean your body minus the dryness. Moisturizing cleansers may help your skin to appear vibrant and rehydrated.

Dry Skin Tip # 4: Dub but do not rub
After taking a bath, people tend to rub their towels to dry their bodies. However, this is not the proper way to remove excess water as this practice can really dry their skin. The proper way is to just dub the towel to your body to make sure that your skin will not lose its moisture.

Dry Skin Tip # 5: Use olive oil
Olive oil is very good in the skin as it is rich in vitamin E and other anti-oxidants. You may apply olive oil after taking a bath. This will rehydrate and keep your skin well moisturized.

Dry Skin Tip # 6: Drink 8 - 12 glasses of water
To make sure that your skin is well hydrated, you also have to drink 8 to 12 glasses of water. This will surely hydrate not just your skin but also your body system.

Dry Skin Tip # 7: Use a humidifier
Humidifier is recommended to keep your skin well hydrated. Any extra moisture added in the air may minimize skin drying.
